Browns trade up for CB Howard Wilson BEREA, Ohio–The Browns continue to wheel and deal.
After giving up their fourth-round pick in the move to get tight end David Njoku in the first round, the Browns got back into the fourth-round by making a trade with the Broncos. It was the third trade the Browns made in the first four rounds.
With the pick, the Browns addressed a need by taking cornerback Howard Wilson from Houston.
“That’s love right there,” an excited Wilson said about the Browns trading up for him. “When they called and said they got me, I just said ‘I appreciate it.'”
Wilson (6-1, 185) was an American Athletic Conference First Team selection. He had 54 tackles last season, including five interceptions, 10 passes broken up and 2.5 sacks. Wilson had nine career interceptions and 15 passes broken up. Wilson ran a 4.57 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
Pro Football Focus ranked Wilson as the 20th-best cornerback in the draft.
CBS Sports and NFL Draft Scout’s Dane Brugler Tweeted:
CB Howard Wilson gets in trouble freelancing, but he's always ball-searching and I love the confidence. Down the road starter. #Browns

Wilson likes that the NFL is a passing league and likes to go get the ball when it’s in the air.
“That’s my job to be out there on the island,” Wilson said. “I like to get picks and I like that the league is a passing league.
“I go get the ball when it’s up in the air,” Wilson said. “I just have initial ability to take the ball out of the air.”
Wilson overcame a season-ending injury after just three games in 2015 and it made him appreciate the game of football when he returned for the 2016 season.
“Being out a year, I played every play like it was my last,” Wilson said. “Every time I had an opportunity to play, I wanted to make the most of it.”
The Browns acquired the 126th overall pick in the fourth round and the Broncos’ 7th round pick (252 overall) in return for their two fifth-round picks (145th and 175th)
As it stands, they still have their two sixth-round picks (181 & 188 overall) and the second to last pick in the NFL Draft. 252
