The American pair birdied 10 holes in the fourball format to close the gap on morning pacesetters Cameron Smith and Jonas Blixt, who carded the same total.
Strong winds saw the afternoon starters struggle to threaten the top of the leaderboard, with Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose among the high profile teams to miss the cut.

Rose and Stenson finished one short despite a six-under 66 on Friday, with top seeds Rickie Fowler and Jason Day a further shot behind.

Smith and Blixt hold the midway lead

Beginning two strokes off the pace, the Reed and Cantlay posted matching gains at the second and fourth before Cantlay tapped in at the seventh and Reed holed a 10-footer at the next.
Cantlay drained a 15-footer at the ninth and added another gain for the duo at the 11th, with the pair picking up fourth further birdies along the closing stretch.

Earlier, Blixt and Smith had made the most of the morning conditions to mix two eagles with six birdies on their way to top spot.
South Korean duo KJ Choi and Charlie Wi are joined by Robert Streb and Troy Merritt two off the pace, with Jordan Spieth and Ryan Palmer one of five teams on 12 under.

Spieth and Palmer posted a second successive 66

Five birdies and an eagle in a six-hole stretch around the turn helped Tyrone Van Aswegen and Retief Goosen to a round-of-the-day 60, as compatriot Louis Oosthuizen birdied his final hole to see him and Branden Grace make the cut on the mark at seven under.
This week’s event is the first official team tournament on the PGA Tour since 1981, with those making it through to the weekend playing the alternate ball format for Saturday’s third round.
